On January 18, 2024, Louis Efstathiou, 67, turned himself into the police after assaulting a 7 year old student in December of 2023 at the Parker-Varney Elementary School in Manchester.
Louis Efstathiou is facing felony assault charges for allegedly assaulting the 7 year old student while on school grounds, according to the Manchester Police.
The incident took place on December 22, 2023 when the parent of the student reported the incident to the Manchester Police Department after their son came home from school with injuries to his face.
After the report, a warrarant was issued for his arrest, and is being charged with 2nd-degree assault, 2 counts of simple assaust and endangering the welfare of a child.
Louis Efstathiou worked as a "behavioral therapist" for Applied ABC (also mentioned in this article), a contracted provider for the Manchester School District.
"Manchester School District places the highest emphasis on student safety, and we take all allegations extremely seriously", said Superintendent Jennifer Chmiel Gillin in a news release. "Upon receiving these allegations, the worker - who is not a district employee - was immediately dismissed from the building and will not return".
According to the news release: the district contracts with agencies to provide services such as nursing, speech therapy, physical therapy and behavioral therapy. These contracted providers hire their own employees and perform background checks and fingerprinting, as well as training. The provider must provide proof that these have taken place before the employee can begin work in a school.
"Due to recent events, the District is taking immediate steps to ensure contracted providers - as is the case with our own employees - are upto date on safety training and reporting of incidents", said Superintendent Jennifer Chmiel Gillin
