Yesterday, Tyshawn Lee - a Burlington resident originally from Manhattan New York - was arrested after he barricaded himself inside a Burlington bar with 2 hostages after a several-hour standoff.
The incident started around 2:15pm - according to the Burlington Police - when officers spotter Tyshawn Lee around the intersection of North Champlain and Peru streets. Tyshawn Lee already had a warrant for his arrest for previous violation-of-conditions-of-release and felony identity theft.
After one of the officers had informed Tyshawn Lee that he was going to be under arrest, Lee backed up and pulled out 2 knives; holding 1 against his neck and pointing the other knife at the officer. This prompted the officer to draw his gun, which caused Tyshawn Lee to flee on foot; cutting through alleys, over fences and through peoples' backyards.
After some chase, Tyshawn Lee had entered the T Rugg's Tavern. Most of the Tavern's patrons had fled, but 2 were trapped inside with Tyshawn Lee, who had guarded the doors and barricaded them and himself inside the Tavern.
This standoff lasted for several hours, to the point that Vermont State Police were called in for assistance by the Burlington Police.

At around 7:15pm one of the hostages - a woman - had escaped the bar; but the other hostage - a man - had begun to fight Tyshawn Lee. This was when the police moved in and engaged with Tyshawn Lee with non-lethal munitions, a flashbang and police dogs.
After the police had gained control of the situation, they noted that several Molotov cocktails could be found inside the bar, made by Tyshawn Lee himself during the standoff.
Tyshawn Lee was taken to the University of Vermont Medican Center for treatment and evaluations. This non-White has more than 110 previous police engagements, and a history for felony domestic assault, aggravated assault, simple assault, driving with a suspended license and vandalism.
