New Hampshire House Passes Pro-Gun Bill

Yesterday on 2/22/2024, the House of Representatives of New Hampshire passed a pro-gun bill at a 203-174 vote, with the bill protecting gun-buyers' privacy.

This bill, House Bill 1186, will prevent financial insitutions from using Merchant Category Code that would gather information about the gun, ammunition and accessory purchases within New Hampshire.

"Stay out of our business. Stay out of my credit card bills. Stay out of my life", state Representative Terry Roy (R-Deerfield) said. "This is the Second Amendment. It's none of the government's business".

This bill will return to the committee for more work on the financial side of its legislation.

The Democrat Representatives raised their "concerns" over the bill being used to shield criminals and terrorists.

"Advocates for this bill were unable to address how this legislation would impact federal investigation of terrorist activities", state Representative Amanda Bouldin (D-Manchester) said. "The committee discussed whether terrorist activities relied on credit cards, and per a 2002 FBI report, they do".
