As I've gotten more into the Monero community and the uses that Monero has, something has been irking me lately. It's something that, though it would seem obvious once said, most don't seem to notice.
I see a big lack of 2A supporters, particularly the really influential ones on social media and youtube, talking about the private means of purchasing firearms.
See, alot of these guys are - rightfully - very weary of government overreach and tyranny; so it only makes sense that they would be pro-2A. A big portion of these guys will spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on firearms that they might later show off in a video or on social media; sometimes using their real names and face, other times choosing to remain anonymous. But they spend hundreds to thousands of traceable dollars, usually through online purchases or bank transfers (for large purchases).
This not only worries me about the complete lack of financial OPSEC these people have, considering that a large portion of them claim to be anti-government and would fight to protect their rights, but also the complete amnesia they have regarding the forced-closure of bank accounts of dissidants of the recent past.
Canadian Truckers
When the Canadian Government decided to force lockdowns and vaccination on their populace, many Canadian truckers decided to protest this measure brought down unilaterally from Justin Trudeu. These truckers were able to bring much of Canadian transport of goods to a halt, forcing the government to get more abrasive with their tactics.
First the government would censor anyone who would post about the protests in a positive light, and those who would livestream themselves at the protests.
Then the government would strong-arm the local businesses into not allowing the truckers to use their restrooms or other public amenities.
When this didn't work, the government resorted to sabatoge. They would wait for the truckers to leave their own trucks in order to use the restroom or to get some food from local donations, and they would cut their brake lines; locking the massive haulers in place, due to their built-in safety feature of locking all tires when the brake-line is severed.
Once it became apparent to the truckers that they couldn't afford to buy food, water, warm clothes and repair their trucks all by themselves, they asked the internet for financial help by donations. These donations were first hosted on GoFundMe, but were quickly shutdown by the site. They then went to GiveSendGo, which did not bend the knee to the government like GoFundMe had done; but the government found a new way to attack its donors.
The government would use the financial transactions on GiveSendGo and track down the bank accounts tied to those profiles/donations. They would contact the bank and force them to close down the accounts of those found out to be donors to the protesters.
Once this began to happen, some people began to onboard some of the truckers onto cryptocurrencies for their donations. But the huge problem with this is that most of these people who did the onboarding had suggested surveillance-laden coins instead of privacy-baked coins like Monero; only a few truckers, to my knowledge, had even had a Monero wallet made to receive donations.
Because of this great mis-step, several handful of these wallets were tracked and locked down by the Canadian government. Because these coins were traceable, the Canadian government was able to wait for them to be loaded onto a Centralized Exchange - usually Coinbase - and then force that Central Exchange to lockdown those coins and hand them over to the government.
These actions by the Canadian government had lead some to become homeless, because their own personal bank accounts had been forcefully closed.
2A
The foundations of the 2A community are: Firearms, Bullets, Magazines, Cash and Transfers. If any one of these foundational pillars of the 2A community are co-opted or impeeded, reverberations of consequences can be felt in all the others.
If Firearms become impossible to find for purchase, the rest are useless.
If Bullets become impossible to find for purchase, the rest are useless.
Witout Magazines, those bullets would be useless for most firearms; outside of using single-shots.
If your cash gets confiscated, or its transfer becomes impossibly difficult, you won't be able to acquire any of the previous necessities for exercizing the 2A.
The government and its NGO lackies know this and have been tactifully attacking each and every one of these foundational pillars. They introduce and pass bills/laws that limit or out-right prohibit legal ownership of certain and-or-all firearms; They use their government contractors to buy up large chunks of the manufactured ammunition within the nation, in order to drive up the price and drive down the supply for civilians; They pass bills prohibiting "large capacity" magazines, and buy large orders of magazines from civilian manufacturers; and the government pushes Credit Card companies and even banks to limit, trace or even prohibit their usage for firearm and firearms-related purchases. Credit card companies such as Visa and Mastercard were tracing firearm and firearm accessory purchases with their services until recently, after being pressured by GOP politicians (if you believe what these companies say).
So, there is a lesson that those within the 2A community should learn: ANONYMITY IS VITAL.
Trying to operate as a wide open book will only leave you wide open to being attacked by those who would love to see you and your family wiped out. It's odd to me that this isn't a more common mentality within the 2A community.
So what can be done? Well, alot actually.
First and foremost, those within the 2A community should show more support for 3D printing, machining and lathing firearms and firearm parts. Relying on the big manufacturers, no matter how "pro-2A" they are, is just a recipe for disaster; those manufacturers can always be co-opted by the state when the state deems it necessary. This support should not just be for the personal production of firearms and accessories, but also for the ammunition these firearms will need.
Secondly, and almost more importantly, they should encourage their followers to make a Monero wallet and use the private cryptocurrency to make their purchases. Using your credit card, debit card or bank transfers broadcasts to the government "Hey, I just bought a gun and gun parts! Put me on a list for later!". By using monero, your cash and any transfers you do will remain private from snooping eyes.
There are 3 main ways in which you can purchase firearms with your monero: 1) On the clearnet (regular internet), 2) On the Darknet (Tor or i2p), 3) In Person.
While I don't recommend buying firearms on the clearnet, due to the rampant amounts of spyware floating around, you can find ways in which to make private purchases.
The 2nd best way is to buy them on the Darknet, though you will have to find dealers/merchants you find reputable and trustworthy for your purchases.
The best way is to purchase/sell firearms and firearm parts in person; this ensures that your seller/buyer can be trusted, and that you can inspect the firearm or firearm parts before finalizing the purchase.
If you are a 2A person and don't already have a Monero wallet, below are some Monero wallets that you can download.
Cake Wallet (Mobile and Computer)
Monero Wallet - by Cake Wallet (Mobile)
Feather Wallet (Computer)
Monerujo (Mobile - Android)
If you want more information on Monero, you can go to getmonero.org. If you want to find more vendors/dealers/merchants of other products, you can try out Monerica, Moneromarket, MoneroMetals, CryptWerk and many others.
