$1 Billion for Mass. Illegals

Massachusetts' House of Representatives voted this wednesday - 3/6/2024 - to add another $245,000,000 towards the "overwhelmed emergency family shelter system", while capping how long people can receive its services; though also rejecting a Republican proposal to limit the program's eligibility.

The vote came at 121 to 33. This bill also makes permenant some scamdemic-era policies as an addition.

Massachusetts' Governor Maura Healey's administration has said that they "project shelter costs will pass $900,000,000 for this fiscal year". Nearly 1 Billion dollars JUST for illegal aliens within the state of Massachusetts.

"It has become crystal clear that the federal government will provide no relief for states like ours who are facing the emergency all over the country", House Ways and Means Committee Chair (((Aaron Michlewits))) said "Washington seems to care more about playing politics on the issue rather than offering solutions for us to implement. That inaction has forced us to make difficult decisions. Without making some temporary changes to this program, it'll collapse under its own weight"

(((Aaron Michelwitz)))

This bill will cap most shelter stays at no longer than 9 consecutive months, compared to the current 13 or 14 months; Shelter residents who find a job will have their stay increased by another 3 months. This bill does not specify what would happen once they reach their stay limit, but (((Michelwitz) said that it does give the Healey administration options to create a reapplication process who those who have hit the limit.
Essentially: They have created a revolving door for the program's recipients.

This bill would also provide automatic 12 continuous months stay for pregnant woman and people with certain disabilities. Only because of an amendment were veterans and people "at imminent risk" of domestic abuse added to the eligible recipients.
This means that this bill was ONLY focused on illegal aliens gaining near-permenant shelter, and paid little to no mind to the homeless veterans and locals of Massachusetts.

This bill will also offer "tax credits" of $2,500 per trainee to businesses that provide workforce training to the people in these shelters.
This means that the government of Massachusetts is basically cutting the taxes of the businesses that train (and later hire) illegal aliens who have made it to the state.

This bill was only released to the House of Representatives in its final form at around 1:00pm on Wednesday; only allowing 5 hours for the Reps to read and vote on it.
