NPCs Wouldn't Get It
Recently there have been many happenings within the crypto world, but the one that sticks out to me in particular is the common notion that alot of transparent-chain users/hodlers have is "who cares if it's 100% traceable? Number go up!"; this is something I notice more frequently within the BTC maxis than most other "cryptos". This notion, or rather a mentality, seems very skewed and counter to the original ethos of cryptocurrency and the intent Satoshi Nakamoto and others had for the future of cryptocurrency.
The original point of cryptocurrencies was to be a digital form of cash, which operates in such a way to negate any assumed-necessities of being at the whim of the government for financial transactions and contracts. Crypto was originally meant to be an open and usable replacement for the government-backed central-bank owned fiat currencies; enabling people to live free-er lives.
But the current state for most of "crypto" is the exact opposite of that. These moonboys are more focused on seeing $number go up, instead of seriously addressing the technical and foundational problems with their "crypto" of choice. They don't see crypto as a way of pulling yourself away from a destructive and suicidal system that wants you dead, but instead see their particular "non-shitcoin" as a cryptographic version of the stock exchange; only to be bought in, and sold for, in fiat sometime down the line in the future.
Those with this mindset aren't bad or wrong for having such opinions - it is their right - but it flies in the face of the whole point of Cryptocurrency, and introduces many severe security problems that these people either could not account for, or simply don't care about in the first place. These actions, or lack of actions, will/has directly lead to many going to prison or worse.
There is also a new version of "Number Go Up" crowd that I've seen on several places online: the "lol, don't be poor" or "who cares if the poors can't use my coin?"
This mentality in particular will become a major stumbling block to most "cryptos" - especially BTC - because it implies 2 things: 1) The Hodler is rich and therefore can afford Tx fees, while non-hodlers are too poor for doing any transactions. 2) Hodlers will only transact with other Hodlers, I.E rich people, because they are "above the poors".
While there are many programmatically and technical reasons for why this mentality will ultimately lead to their favorite surveillance-coin dying, the reason that strikes me is that this mentality/attitude is going to put-off many people who would other-wise like to get into cryptocurrencies. Nobody likes smug rich assholes, even if that asshole only seems more wealthy because of what they hold but really isn't.
This attitude of "I got mine, go fuck yourself POOR" is the siren's death-screech just before she takes her final breath; many have fallen to this last-ditch effort to sound smart or feel in control (TRS/NJP for example).
I love Monero and WoWnero, I don't hide that. I like their technology, their ethos, their use-case, their mining requirements (or lack thereof), and I like the communities surrounding these 2 true Cryptocurrencies; but I won't pretend that they're the best at what they do or can offer.
Zano has much faster confirmation speed, and has MUCH cheaper Tx fees ($0) compared to Monero's ~$0.01 Tx fees. Dero offers private smart-contracts - something I'm not entirely sure could be done with Monero (atleast strictly at base-level). But i recognize that these Cryptocurrencies have their time and use-case, and each have their own value mostly based off those reasons.
If Zano or Dero or any other true Cryptocurrency wants to incorporate Monero - or vice versa - I'd be really interested in seeing what they come up with; instead of trying to censor both the speech and transactions of those I disagree with (like Ocean mining pool and the Ordinals fiasco).
But maybe that's just me.

If there is 1 signifier than can tell you whether a "cryptocurrency" truly is shit or not is if you can have no fear about posting your wallet address on the internet for everyone to see. See, a true Cryptocurrency is private, hence the prefix "crypto"; any digital currency claiming to be a cryptocurrency, but doesn't have this single feature baked into it, then it's just a giant fucking larp.
If your chain is transparent and traceable, you, your transactions and your financial contacts are traceable. Most people lose any sense of morals when they think they have an "easy win" to getting rich; so good luck stacking your surveillance coins, Maxis!
